Process work OH BOY
Who wants to see scribbly, messy process stuff? Woooooooh!
I wanted to draw Jan and his fiance dancing. My first attempt was stiff and boring and I just could not get there arms to work out.
Second try was better. What I really wanted to get was an upshot though, and this drawing was really small anyway, so I tried again. Did I ever get the angle I wanted? No. I went ahead and coloured the third drawing anyway.
This is what it looks like with just the cell shaded layer. I never intended to *just* do cell shading, so when I cleaned up the drawing I used thin lines without a lot of variation. I personally don't like soft/painted colouring with thick, bold black lines.
The two together in the final image. I... wasn't going to keep that background but decided to just because I have nothing better to put there.
I did the painted/cell combination before, but didn't save the file properly (HRRRRRNG TRAGEDY!), so I wanted to try it again with this drawing. I feel the cell shading helps bump up the contrast while the painterly shading makes it more interesting and gives it more life. I never liked the way I did cell shading much because it always came out so flat and boring.
So, uh, there we are!

Animals? Animals!
In preparation for developing some new characters for Professor Alpaca to interact with, I've been practicing drawing animals! So far I've looked at pigs, goats, and donkeys, and have early designs for the pig and goat characters. Here is the Professor beside two of his pupils:
They are supposed to be... in... scale... to one another (what am I trying to saaaaaay). I'm not sure how big goats/pigs/alpacas are compared to each another, so more research is needed there. The unnamed goat and pig are likely to change a bit. Also Professor Alpaca is getting more fluff on his face, which almost looks like sideburns. Heeee.

Buddy Colours
Oh hey look I AM colouring this, but I'm just like...whaaaat. Maybe find a way to make those background hills more interesting without making them too busy. Also plan on cropping it a little bit, and maybe more shading on the bird. Other than the cast shadow currently on him. Yes, thats a cast shadow.

Animations!
And I have finally uploaded my animation assignments for the year! I've compiled them into two videos, one for each semester. First year was a lot of fun, I'm totally looking forward to second. BRING IT!

Caricature
We did caricatures of our classmates in Life Drawing today. While I don't really care for most of the ones I did, they were still hella fun to do. For anyone interested, here they are...
Andy! It actually kind of looks like him!
This one is scary. Kudos to Marc for holding this face for 10 minutes.
My Winona looks kind of weird/not like her at all. Sadface.
My second Tyler. The first one got handed in. It was better.
I... I don't know who this is. He comes to our Life Drawing class sometimes. Anyway, he was making an awesome face.
Aaaand its a scary Thurman.

A bit of a doodle dump.
Sooooo I thought I should update.
Here are some doodles from the last few weeks. Devoting a lot of spare time to drawing is something I haven't been doing for awhile, so in order to try to get my butt back in gear I've started drawing what I want instead of what I think I should be. I figure once I get back into it, I can start devoting more free time to practicing the areas I need to improve. At least I'll be drawing.
Also I should probably... show people my stuff more. I'm kind of shy/embarassed when it comes to my artwork but if I want to succeed with animation I'm going to have to get over that.
ANYWAY.
This lady here has no name. Or real role. In my vague imaginary universe with my vague imaginary characters she is the wife of one Frederick. For reasons unknown I really wanted to figure out what she looks like.
Isn't she pretty? I like her hat.
If I ever get around to developing the story she'd be a part of, I don't think she'd actually show up. Maybe briefly, but nothing big. I'll just steal her outfit for some other character I guess.
Oh! I made a little watermark thingy too. As you might have noticed. It's just my initials, nothing fancy.
Aaaand just some other things. I... really can't think of comments.
And a wee bit of homework. These are just some of my thumbnails for the opposites assignment in painting class. Throwing caution to the wind, I just did them in pen. I don't know what to think of them, but I'm sure they turned out better than what would have happened if I just used pencil.
